A boat stolen on March 21 in Salerno was found yesterday afternoon in the waters of Pozzano, in Castellammare di Stabia.
The vessel, a “Mimì 19” model, approximately 7 metres long and white in colour, was found beached near the “Stone” beach resort thanks to the coordinated intervention of the Coast Guard of Castellammare di Stabia and Salerno, under the direction of the Maritime Directorate of Naples, led by Rear Admiral Gaetano Angora.
In charge of the operations was Commander Andrea Pellegrino, head of the maritime department of Castellammare di Stabia. Through the analysis of the on-board GPS and a thorough inspection of the abandoned vessel, the Coast Guard men traced the owner: a 60-year-old resident of San Valentino Torio.
The man, contacted by the authorities, declared that he was unaware of what had happened, believing that his boat was regularly moored at the Marina di Arechi, in the municipality of Salerno.
After formalizing the theft report, the owner was able to regain possession of the vessel, which had not been damaged and was complete with objects and equipment on board. According to the initial investigations conducted by the Port Authority of Castellammare di Stabia, those on board the vessel abandoned it on the Stabia shore and then left by land.
Maritime authorities continue to investigate to reconstruct the dynamics of the theft and identify those responsible. In the meantime, the timely intervention of the Coast Guard has allowed the stolen goods to be returned to their rightful owner, closing a case that had left the man in a state of total disbelief.

This was a strange case of a stolen and found boat. I wonder how it is possible that no one saw anything while the boat was abandoned. The Coast Guard did a good job but there are many questions.
