The mayor of Scafati (Salerno), Pasquale Aliberti, reported the ASL of Salerno and the Campania Region to the Nocera Inferiore prosecutor's office for manslaughter and failure to comply with the authorities' provisions.
The mayor, last October 25, had signed an ordinance with which he ordered the ASL Salerno and the Campania Region to immediately reopen the first aid point of the hospital facility and to provide ambulances with resuscitation doctors expert in emergencies for the most complex cases, in an adequate number based on the population. The provision came after the death, due to illness, of a 59-year-old woman and the death, also due to illness, of a 60-year-old man.
“I have requested as an investigation to the Nocera prosecutor's office - explains Aliberti after filing the complaint with the Carabinieri - the appointment of a medical-legal panel that, on the basis of the documentation produced and examined the state of the places, also with reference to the travel times of the hospital facilities of Sarno and Nocera, say, according to the national and international guidelines, the rescue times in the case of cardiac ailments, taking care to list what are the additional pathologies for which prompt rescue is required and if, at the moment, the population of Scafati is guaranteed in the case of pathologies for which prompt rescue is required by the Po of Sarno and Nocera Inferiore, taking care to ascertain and verify, also, based on the users, the capacity of health services by these latter hospital facilities”.
“In the next few days,” the mayor anticipated, “I will accompany the families of the victims who have suffered first-hand the failed management of healthcare, to Palazzo Santa Lucia, to protest, to shed light on the whole affair, so that everyone, according to their level of competence, takes their own responsibilities.”
