The 23rd edition of the International Festival of 700th Century Neapolitan Music, organized by the Domenico Scarlatti Association, continues with great protagonists.
Tomorrow, Thursday 14 December, at 20.30:1 pm, in the Baroque Church of Donnaregina Diocesan Museum (Largo Donna Regina, XNUMX), “Tenors and Countertenors, rivalries and jealousies between singers in the theatres of Europe” will be performed with Roberto Manuel Zangari tenor and Antonello Dorigo, countertenor, accompanied by the Naples Chamber Orchestra conducted by Enzo Amato.
The castrated singers, in the eighteenth century, were overpaid and assumed the typical diva-like attitudes of our days and soon they were employed, in addition to sacred music, also in opera. All these were the true lords and tyrants of the stage, the public raved about them, the managers flattered them, the composers feared them and did not dare to rebel against their whims, they often entered into competition among themselves but also with their tenor and baritone colleagues.
