The Ring Road-Porto connection tunnels Pozzuoli it is finally passable. After works that were initiatives in the 80s and were then interrupted, the tunnels have finally seen the light.
The inauguration was held today also in the presence of the President of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca.
"Today we are inaugurating these two tunnels in Pozzuoli, these are works that started decades ago and I must tell you honestly that it was an ordeal to get to the conclusion, because we also had discussions with the companies, after so many years there are so many problems to solve. But we had the tenacity, the strength to complete this work", commented De Luca.
The Campania Region, De Luca explained, guarantees maintenance for the whole of 2024: “We finance the maintenance that is entrusted to the Naples Ring Road and for the rest I believe that we are facing an extraordinary urban redevelopment,” he added.
De Luca recalled that "we have funding and works underway for the enhancement of Cumana, for the recovery of the Baia Station, we are waiting for Minister Fitto to wake up because we have to finance with another 15 million euros the piers and docks in the port of Pozzuoli, the feeling that I get from this day is of great confidence, in a country that has economic difficulties, with a truly uncertain prospect for 2024, the conclusion of a work like this is a sign of hope for us and for Italy as a whole".
"Today is an important day for Pozzuoli, where another infrastructure that had been stopped for many years is opening. This is the result of hard work done since I took office in synergy with the Campania Region and Tangenziale"
. The mayor of Pozzuoli Luigi Manzoni said this at the inauguration of the new tunnel that quickly connects the port area of Pozzuoli to the ring road.
"When you work as a team - he added - and you work responsibly you get results. The opening of the tunnel is an important result for the city of Pozzuoli not only in terms of an escape route for bradyseism, because it is an important artery that decongests city traffic, directly connecting the upper area to the lower area, without passing through some city streets and therefore creating traffic on those streets".
Manzoni also took stock of bradyseism after the 2.6 earthquake two days ago: “On bradyseism – he said – we have acted in a synergic manner at all institutional levels, from the Government to the Region, to the Metropolitan City and with the local administrations we have implemented this decree converted into law, all those prevention and risk mitigation activities have been implemented and certainly in the next few days we will present the activities and the state of the art of the points converted into law”.
The new Pozzuoli tunnel, which connects the Port and the Ring Road, "is a strategic intervention, which is part of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan that we recently approved in the Metropolitan City, to ease traffic flows in the Phlegraean area with an important impact in terms of tourism and the environment, but also as an escape route for bradyseism".
This was stated by the Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Naples, Giuseppe Cirillo, who spoke this morning at the inauguration ceremony of the tunnel that directly connects the ring road with the port of Pozzuoli.
“It is an intervention – he added – that demonstrates how effective the synergy between the Campania Region, the Municipality of Pozzuoli, the Tangenziale and all the various parties involved, to whom we extend our thanks, has been to unblock a work that will finally allow traffic to be decongested in the upper part of Pozzuoli, in the center and in the areas of Arco Felice, with an advantage for the entire Phlegraean territory”.
