Around 60 Lazio fans were stopped by German police in Hamburg in the hours before the Europa League match against Dynamo Kiev. According to local authorities, the Lazio supporters tried to elude the police escort and were later found in possession of knives, clubs and other weapons.
The check took place yesterday evening and the fans are still being held today, when the match is scheduled. Despite the stoppage, Lazio clarified in a statement that no arrests were made, but those involved were denied access to the stadium for the match.
Dynamo Kiev, due to the war in Ukraine, is forced to play its home games in Germany, and Hamburg has been designated as a temporary venue. This episode is not an isolated case: Lazio fans have already been involved in incidents during European away matches in the past. The German police have intensified controls precisely to prevent clashes or acts of violence in the city during the sporting event.
