The municipal administration of Pozzuoli is committed to preventing the dismissal of 65 employees of the Metro branch on Via Campana, a wholesale point of sale of food products, electronics, clothing, gadgets and office equipment.
Yesterday, the mayor Gigi Manzoni and the councilor for productive activities Titti Zazzaro participated in a meeting at the offices of the Campania Region, together with representatives of Metro, institutions and workers, to discuss a solution that protects the staff, following the company's decision to close the headquarters starting in 2025.
“From the beginning we have declared our willingness to offer any possible support, in the event that Metro decides not to close.
We will do everything we can to prevent 65 workers from finding themselves without a job,” said Mayor Manzoni at the end of the meeting, which was also attended by Vanessa Catania, director of human resources for Metro Italia, the regional councilor for productive activities Antonio Marchiello, union representatives and a delegation of workers.
The Metro representative confirmed the intention to close the Pozzuoli office, reserving the right to make a final decision on the future of the employees. These are shelf stackers, counter staff, sales and administrative staff, as well as 23 related workers, who risk losing their jobs.
"We appreciate Metro's decision to take twenty extra days to evaluate possible solutions for employees. For our part, we are ready to present concrete proposals as soon as the company's position is final. The institutions have taken action to protect workers, and we remain cautiously optimistic for a positive conclusion to the matter," said Councilor Zazzaro.
