The President of the Foundation Vassal: “Statements offensive to democracy push us to ask for the intervention of the Prefecture”.
This morning the president of the Angelo Foundation Vassal Mayor Fisherman Dario Vassallo has sent a certified email to Prefect of Salerno, Francesco Esposito, to request the removal of Francesco Alfieri from his institutional roles, in particular from the office of mayor of Capaccio-Paestum and president of the Province of Salerno.
The request is based on public statements recently made by Mayor Alfieri, who said: “Democracy equals idiocy”. These words were perceived as an insult and a serious offense to the memory and sacrifice of all the people who gave their lives to defend and build democracy in Italy.
Among these, we remember men of the State, of institutions, of the world of work, trade unions and universities, many of whom were assassinated precisely for defending these fundamental values.
“After so many deaths to achieve democracy in this country and after the loss of so many men of the State and institutions, I find Francesco Alfieri's words offensive, as he himself holds an institutional role,” declared Dario Vassallo.
“It is not up to me to evaluate the intellectual capacities of the aforementioned individual, but, as the brother of a mayor killed for his civic commitment, I feel obliged to humbly urge Your Lordship to apply Article 141, paragraph 1, letter b, and Article 142 of the TUEL against the mayor of Capaccio-Paestum.”
With this action, the Angelo Vassallo Foundation "once again stands in defense of the democratic and institutional values, which were at the center of the civil commitment of Angelo Vassallo, assassinated for his courageous work as Mayor of Pollica".
