An attempted robbery turned into a spectacular chase between Castel di Sangro (L'Aquila) and Castelvenere (Benevento), culminating in a crash that forced the criminals to flee on foot. The episode, which occurred on November 17, saw a group of thieves, presumably from Campania, carry out a robbery in a house in Castel di Sangro and then attempt a repeat in the Benevento area.
According to the reconstruction, the thieves broke into a house near the Alto Sangrino hospital, taking advantage of the owners' absence. After stealing money, jewelry and an Audi A3 parked on the property, they headed towards Castelvenere. Here, they boldly attempted to burgle the home of the local mayor. However, the robbery failed, probably due to the timely intervention of residents or law enforcement.
During their escape, the thieves lost control of the Audi, which overturned on a peripheral road. Forced to abandon the vehicle, the criminals disappeared on foot, disappearing without a trace.
The Carabinieri intervened at the scene of the accident, recovered the stolen car and began investigations to gather clues useful for identifying those responsible. The Audi A3, now undergoing in-depth examinations, could prove crucial in tracing the perpetrators of the thefts.
The incident has raised concerns among residents in both towns, highlighting the need to tighten controls in areas most exposed to crime. Local authorities are considering implementing video surveillance systems and other security measures to prevent further similar incidents.
Meanwhile, investigations continue with the aim of closing in on the fugitives, while the community remains alert in the face of an episode that has highlighted the audacity of increasingly organized criminal gangs ready to defy the risks of a spectacular escape.
