From December 12th to 15th, the Sala Assoli at Casa del Contemporaneo in Naples will host Second Hand – Di Seconda Mano, the longest-running contemporary dance festival in Southern Italy. The event, directed by Gabriella Stazio of Movimento Danza, is part of the "New Dance Box – scouting, promotion and more 2022/2024" project, supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Campania Region.

The event is dedicated to authorial choreography and youth creativity.

A mix of choreographies

The title of the show is inspired by Merce Cunningham’s 1970 choreography, characterized by the use of fragments of previous works to create new works. Similarly, “Second Hand” presents a series of short choreographic suites by different authors, particularly under 35. This approach allows to explore new connections between different worlds and unite different languages and generations.

An important showcase for young talents

From 1984 with the first edition of Enterprise until 2024, Second Hand has supported contemporary dance in Naples, becoming a point of reference for young artists. The event also offers debut opportunities for creative residencies through the programs “Choreografi in Movimento” and “Residanza – La Casa della Nuova Coreografia”.

Significant programming

The participants of the 2024 edition include prominent artists such as Antonello Apicella, Irma Cardano, Claudio Prati and Ariella Vidach, and many others. During the various evenings, the public will be able to attend performances such as “Origenìa” by Antonello Apicella and “No Question” by Irma Cardano, up to “Keywords n.5” by Gabriella Stazio. Tickets for the festival are available online at a cost of 10 euros, with reductions to 8 euros, and can also be purchased at the Sala Assoli box office.
