New measures to tackle the spread of blue crab were announced with the Intervention Plan presented to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry.

Objectives of the Plan
The initiative's main objective is to "protect the biodiversity of the affected habitats", contain and combat the proliferation of the invasive species and prevent further economic damage. Furthermore, it aims to "promote the resumption of breeding and fishing activities".
Main measures
Among the main measures are the containment and disposal of the blue crab, the protection of aquaculture structures, the valorization of biomass through alternative uses and economic support for companies in the sector. The resources allocated for the implementation of this extraordinary plan are in addition to the "over 44 million euros allocated by the Ministry in recent years".
The intervention plan also includes collaboration with ISPRA, the National Research Council, CREA, Port Authorities and territorial bodies of the regions most affected by the emergency.
