The Carabinieri of the Piedimonte Matese Station have executed a precautionary custody order under house arrest, issued by the GIP of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere at the request of the Prosecutor's Office.
The measure concerns a 44-year-old from Gioia Sannitica, investigated for a series of thefts of copper and other materials, committed on multiple occasions to the detriment of a construction site in his municipality of residence.
The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, started from the complaints filed by the owner of the building, supported by images that portrayed the man while he was removing significant quantities of copper, for an estimated value of more than 30.000 euros. Subsequent investigative activities allowed the 44-year-old to be identified as the alleged perpetrator.
After the formal procedures, the man was taken to his home, where he will serve house arrest pending the continuation of the investigation.
The episode is part of an unfortunately widespread phenomenon, that of copper thefts, which affect construction sites and infrastructures, causing huge economic damage. The police continue to monitor the territory to prevent and repress such crimes.
