On Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd March, the Bosco de' Medici facility in via Antonio Segni, 37 in Pompeii, starting at 09:30 am, will host the second edition of “Le Città Nuove”, a national discussion seminar on urban and political issues.

The two-day event is organized by Left wing, a political and cultural association with over twenty years of activity, and will see the participation of over one hundred local administrators, institutional representatives and exponents of the academic world, social activism and the third sector.
The work of Saturday will be opened by the President of the Left Wing association Maurizio Roi and concluded by a round table in which the Senator Pd Francesco Verducci and the coordinator of the national secretariat of the Pd Marta Bonafoni. On Sunday, instead, the works will be introduced by Michael Grimaldi, municipal councilor of Scafati and member of the PD National Assembly, and will see the conclusions of the deputy Matteo Orfini, the writer Maurizio de Giovanni and the Mayor of Naples and national President of the Anci Gaetano Manfredi.

Representatives of all parties and movements of the progressive camp will also participate.
The four sessions and seminars on Saturday will be opened by Nicola Capone (Philosopher, teacher and activist), Emma Buondonno (Professor of the Department of Architectural and Urban Composition of the University Federico II of Naples), Alessandro Coppola (Professor of the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies of the Polytechnic of Milan), Alfonso Amendola (Professor of Sociology of Cultural Processes at the University of Salerno and Director of the laboratory “Open Class. Ateneo & Territorio”), Enrica Morlicchio (Professor of Economic Sociology at the University Federico II of Naples, Co-director of Sociology of Work).
Learning objectives
The aim of the two-day event is to put politics back at the centre of cities and cities back at the centre of politics, giving back centrality in government choices – at all levels – to a model of urban development that is more socially equitable and environmentally sustainable: trying to deconstruct the propaganda of conservative policies and speculative interests, and give back the right meaning to some words and values such as housing, urban planning, culture, security.

The event seems to be very interesting and engaging for the participants, but I wonder if the decisions that will be taken will really have an impact on the cities and if concrete actions will be followed to improve the urban situation.
