Naples – With a majority vote, the City Council of Napoli has marked a decisive step for the city's culture: the acquisition of the property at via Vergini 19, located inside the majestic Palazzo dello Spagnolo, for the sum of 50 thousand euros, registration fees included
. The goal? To transform the historic building into the future home of the Museum of Totò, the legendary Prince of Laughter, in an operation financed by the Strategic Plan of the Metropolitan City of Naples.
A decision that closes a procedure started in 2014 and that marks a turning point for the valorization of the Neapolitan cultural heritage.
Resolution no. 76, approved after a heated debate, saw councilor Salvatore Flocco (5 Star Movement) push for an advance on the discussion, while Salvatore Guangi (Forza Italia) chose to abstain, while expressing confidence in the project.
Meanwhile, resolution no. 70 was also approved unanimously, introducing the new Regulation for the appointment and operation of the Local Landscape Commission, replacing the 2017 one. Massimo Pepe, president of the Urban Planning Commission, illustrated the new features: among these, the extension from 30 to 45 days of the mandate of the outgoing commission, to ensure operational continuity while waiting for the new appointment.
But there was no shortage of political back-and-forth. Rosario Andreozzi (Napoli Solidale Europa Verde Difendi la Città) raised the alarm about the risks of demolition of condoned homes, underlining the housing emergency that affects many families evicted, both from private and public assets.
A situation that, according to Andreozzi, contrasts with the data provided by the administration, which denies a systematic expulsion of residents from the central neighborhoods in favor of bed and breakfasts and vacation homes.
Guangi, for his part, pointed the finger at the biblical times of building practices: "In some cases, the waiting time reaches a year, compared to the 30 days foreseen in other municipalities", he denounced, urging a meeting with the Superintendency to streamline the procedures.
The session ended with the approval of resolution no. 23, proposed by councilor Sergio D'Angelo (Napoli Solidale Europa Verde Difendi la Città), which introduces the new Regulation for the management of educational services for the 0-6 age group.
After verifying the quorum, with 20 councilors present in the Chamber, the president adjourned the session, leaving open questions on the table but with a historic goal achieved: Naples is one step closer to paying homage to one of its most illustrious sons, Antonio De Curtis, aka Totò.
