The 21st edition of the 'Brividi d'Estate 2022' festival is underway

"For every minute we keep our eyes closed we lose sixty seconds of lightIt is from this persevering thought that the program of Chills of Summer 2022, the twenty-first edition of the historic festival organized by Il Pozzo e il Pendolo Teatro di Napoli which, from Friday 1 July 2021 at 21.00 pm, will return to animate, with its stories, the fascinating setting of the Real Orto Botanico di Napoli.

Born from an idea by Annamaria Russo, the review, among the longest-running in the city, is supported by the sensitivity and precious collaboration of the Federico II University of Naples, which manages the park, and with the patronage of the Municipality of Naples.

For about forty days, until Saturday 6 August, the most beautiful park in Naples will be transformed into the most magical of theatres immersed in greenery, with a journey into the stories we loved the most.

The project for this twenty-first edition was born from the awareness that the difficulties of this journey towards the longed-for “normality” can only be overcome by thinking as a crew. Different people, with different stories and roles, aware that only a common effort can lead to the goal.

The Real Orto Botanico di Napoli, also this year, will become a shared space with artists and companies, a place in which to find excitement, energy and enthusiasm. Half of the days of programming, in fact, will be available to the guest companies.

"A beautiful happy island – Annamaria Russo underlines – that we have been fortunate enough to inhabit for over twenty years and that, after such a difficult period, we considered a moral duty, as well as an infinite joy, to be able to share again with those who, like us, have weathered the storm looking for land on the horizon.

A traveling companion is the determination to reopen our eyes, closed by fear and the uncertainties of these years, and try, together with our usual traveling companions and new ones, to set sail towards the first lights.".

Having become a classic and eagerly awaited summer event for Neapolitans, this edition of the festival will feature fourteen shows (two new productions, timeless classics by Il Pozzo e il Pendolo and guest companies) and the return of the murder mystery dinners in a carousel of offerings and an enthusiasm that harks back to the beginning of this long-standing adventure.

The festival will open on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd July with Vipera by Maurizio de Giovanni, with Rosaria De Cicco, Marianita Carfora, Sonia De Rosa, Paolo Cresta, Salvatore Catanese, Alfredo Mundo, Gennaro Monti, Nino Conte, Emanuel Mauriello, adapted and directed by Annamaria Russo.

It is the spring of 1932, Easter is upon us and in one of the rooms of Paradiso, the most famous brothel in Naples, Maria Rosaria Cennamo, aka Vipera, is found dead. She is the prostitute that all the men of the city dream about, but that only a few can have. Once again Luigi Alfredo Ricciardi will be forced to move through the infernal circles of the human soul to give a face and a name to the murderer of Paradiso.

Thursday 7 July, Teatro dell'Osso with the support of Teatro TRAM presents Controvento texts and direction by Gennaro Esposito, with Antonio D'Avino, Angela Bertamino, Guido Di Geronimo. On stage four characters, four souls ready to lay themselves bare to tell their personal experiences. Traveling show for max 40 people, first entry at 19.30:21.30, second entry at XNUMX:XNUMX.

The review will continue on Friday 8 July with the first appointment of Murder Mystery Dinner, the Murder Party in the setting of the Real Orto Botanico di Napoli, an original format that 17 years ago Pozzo e il Pendolo was the first to import from Great Britain.

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July, it will be the turn of A te, Masaniello, dramaturgy and direction by Annamaria Russo, with Alessio Sica, Marianita Carfora, Alfredo Mundo, Riccardo Maio, Gennaro Monti, Debora Sacco, Michele Costantino.

Masaniello was twenty-seven years old, he was a fisherman and sold fish at the market. In ten days he managed to give a dream to the Neapolitans. A dream so beautiful and scary that his fellow citizens decided to destroy the dream and the madman who had allowed them to dream it.

The third week of programming will begin on Wednesday, July 13, with Sottosopra by and with Gea Martire, music composed and performed by Valerio Virzo. Sometimes the world stops turning and jams, stumbles, ends up upside down. And so in the year 2020, the reversal reaches its extreme consequences.

Thursday, July 14 (repeated on August 4), La notte dei racconti magici by Gennaro Monti will be on stage, also starring with Sonia De Rosa, Davide De Rosa, Francesco Zampa, Carolina Aterrano. A magical and mysterious tale accompanied by music and rhythm, masks and the strength of a story that has its roots in a distant world that survives, fortunately, in rare but precious events.

Antonella Morea, accompanied on the piano by Vittorio Cataldi, brings to the stage, on Friday 15 July, Donne in canto, a sung and recited journey of the female characters she has played in her 44-year career, and also some she would have liked, such as De Simone, Santanelli, Ruccello, Eduardo, Pazzaglia, Gragnaniello, D'angelo, Daniele.

Paolo Cresta will bring to the stage, Saturday 16 July, Novecento by Alessandro Baricco, a heartbreaking, bitter, very sweet fairy tale. The story of an exceptional pianist, capable of playing wonderful music, a music that exists nowhere else but the ocean. His name is Novecento, his world is a ship from which he does not know how to get off. Because beyond that ship there is life. The real one.

It is a lacerating journey to the center of the soul, in the infernal circles of fears and insecurity, of pain and the past. The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante with Rosaria De Cicco, adapted and directed by Annamaria Russo, on stage Sunday 17 July. Ferrante's words are splinters of life that tear the flesh, fragments that ask for a voice to find the meaning of a path.

The fourth week of programming is packed with events, starting on Wednesday, July 20 with Adolf before Hitler by Antonio Mocciola, starring Gabriella Cerino, Vincenzo Coppola and Francesco Barra, directed by Diego Sommaripa. A glimpse of intimate life, destined to become public, and lethal. The course of history, perhaps, would have changed radically. All it would have taken was a reciprocated glance, a courageous understanding.

Thursday, July 21, Teatro dell'Osso presents Le donne sono mostri by Marina Salvetti, with Roberta Astuti, Sara Giglio, directed by Angela Rosa D'Auria. The author reinterprets four monstrous figures in a modern key with irony, originality and fun.

Friday 22nd July, second appointment of Murder Mystery Dinner, the Murder Party in the setting of the Real Orto Botanico di Napoli, an original format by Pozzo e il Pendolo Teatro.

In an absolute premiere, on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July, Il Pozzo e il Pendolo Teatro presents Circe by Madeline Miller, adapted by Annamaria Russo and Rosalba Di Girolamo, with Rosalba Di Girolamo and Lorenzo Sarcinelli, directed by Annamaria Russo.

The American writer deserves credit for having captured the thousand nuances of one of the most well-known and least-known characters in classical culture, freeing her from the dark shadows that centuries of misogyny had cast upon her. The Circe that slips out of Madeline Miller's pages is a creature with a disruptive scenic power. A character who transforms words into blood, sweat and flesh. A timeless heroine who demands to be heard.

The fifth week of programming will propose, Thursday 28 July, the show Novella e le altre, directed, dramaturgy and choreographed by Erminia Sticchi, with Skaramacay Art Factory. On stage the ancient mimes of Pompeii through an innovative language, to bring back to life ancient emotions, made of passion and eros that re-emerge, for the first time, from the ashes under which, on that night of 79 AD, Vesuvius buried them.

On Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July, the festival will continue with One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcìa Màrquez, with Paolo Cresta and the Ringe Ringe Raja, adapted and directed by Annamaria Russo and Ciro Sabatino.

Loved books are the suitcase of suggestions, of emotions, that we carry with us, for a day or for a lifetime. They have the flavor of a season of existence, that, sometimes, restore unchanged the amazed naivety of a recent or remote past. They are the shivers, the laughter, the tears, and One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of these.

Two events in the last week of programming, which will propose, on Friday 5 August, Farsescamente written and directed by Gianmarco Cesario, with Ciro Scherma, Giuseppe Fedele, Angela Rosa D' Auria, Leonardo Di Costanzo.

Farce uses paradox to show us man, his pettiness, his daily dramas that cannot fail to induce a smile thanks to which we arrive at a greater knowledge of ourselves.

The Brividi d'estate 2022 review will end on Saturday 6 August with the third scheduled appointment of La cena con delitto, the original Murder Party in the setting of the Real Orto Botanico di Napoli, a format created by Pozzo e il Pendolo Teatro.
