Procida 2022, children redesign the island with architect Mario Cucinella and street artist Pao. From 9 to 11 September for “Restart from the future” the project “Ri_Pro'” will be on stage
All together to redesign the island in the language of children. With inhabitants with human features but a bit fish, a bit trees, a bit penguins. Accompanied by a great international architect and a street artist. In Procida it's time for "Restart from the future. School of architecture for children", the project curated by the Farm Cultural Park, included in the cultural program of the Italian Capital of Culture 2022. From Friday 9 to Sunday 11 September (with return to the public at 11.00 in the former agricultural estate of Palazzo d'Avalos) "Ri_Pro'" arrives, a workshop that asks children to redesign and repopulate Procida, or "riprocidare".
The event is conceived by Mario Cucinella, architect and educator, founder of the studio MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects, specialized in architectural design that integrates environmental and energy strategies. The work group present on the island includes the street artist Paolo Bordino, known by the pseudonym of Pao, and Laura Pasquazzo, with the coordination of the architect Caterina Malinconico, didactic coordinator of SOS – School of Sustainability, post graduate program of Mario Cucinella architecture and sustainable design based in Milan, and the technical contribution of the partner company Fonolab.
The final installation, which the very young participants in the workshop will work on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th in the Officine di Misteri di Terra Murata (10.00-12,30 / 17.00-19.30), will consist of a series of large silhouettes that – arranged all together – will tell what the new inhabitants of Procida will be like.
“Once again we will build a path of meaning with children, and not for children, in line with our dossier”, says Agostino Riitano, director of Procida 2022. “We do this by proudly hosting a team of internationally renowned creatives who also signed '1,5°C COP26, Communiqué' by Architecture 2030, an open letter to governments that demonstrates the commitment of companies and organizations to respect the 1,5°C reduction plan of the Paris Agreement and asks governments to do the same. One of the objectives that we pursue with our cultural action is to put the child at the center of urban development, since it is in the relationship with public space that they are able to indicate ways and new directions”.
