There are prominent members of the clans of camorra of Naples and its province among the 56 inmates of the Poggioreale prison for whom the Prosecutor's Office is requesting a trial following the clashes of March 8, 2020 in full lockdown.

A thousand inmates gave rise to a riot due to the suspension of meetings imposed by the Council of Ministers to combat the coronavirus epidemic. Damages amounting to a few million euros, apocalyptic scenes that fortunately did not culminate with the loss of any human life. The clashes resulted in four Penitentiary Police officers and one inmate injured.
To unleash the fury of the inmates Napoli it was the news of the death of an inmate and the fear of the spread of the coronavirus. Three days earlier, an inmate had felt unwell, had been transferred to Cardarelli, where a few hours later he died. The deceased inmate had been swabbed, which came back negative. But the news had not served to reassure the rioters.
The next day however the detainees they were allowed to hold interviews again and in the meantime 325 of them were allowed to sleep in their homes. This decision was taken by the surveillance judges to ease the pressure and find an agreement so that the protests would stop.
