A 'hellish' life, to use the words of the investigating judge, the one a young Neapolitan woman was forced to live. After having repeatedly faked accidental falls to hide from doctors the origin of the injuries her partner was causing her, who was beating her savagely even when she was pregnant with their child, she finally found the courage to report it.
And the man – as reported in the Corriere del Mezzogiorno – was arrested by the Carabinieri. He is now under house arrest, naturally in a different home from that of his ex-partner. It is yet another story of violence that matures in an environment, the judge writes in the order, “absolutely sick, with the suspect's behavior tinged with cruelty and total contempt for the human being who lived alongside him.”
A man who acted with “unheard of violence” and in “absence of any sign of repentance”, “regardless of the criminal repercussions… evidently because he was confident in the situation of subjection in which his victim had been living for some time”.
The facts date back to the spring of 2021, when the man began to mistreat his partner, insulting her with unspeakable phrases, forcing her to sleep in the bathroom, threatening to kill her even when she was pregnant (“I’ll stab you in the stomach… tonight is the right time to kill you…”), perhaps fearing that the woman wanted to break off the relationship (“…for me it’s better to die, either we’re all together or we all die”).
In July 2021, during her pregnancy, he attacked her with kicks and slaps, dragged her by her hair along the landing, breaking her wrist. “The repeated attacks – sthe judge writes – they induced her to record the incidents to her detriment", but the harassment – even in the presence of the minor daughter – continued.
Until the woman decided to go to the police and report all the episodes of which she had been a victim, handing over "videos and chats", and being able to count on the support of friends and family who confirmed the accusations, one by one.
To strengthen the circumstantial evidence, the investigating judge notes, “the same reason as the medical reports (accidental falls)” which “paradoxically constitutes the most convincing evidence of the climate of terror in which the injured party was forced to live”.
