Three people are under investigation for the death last Tuesday in hospital in Ariano Irpino, in the province of Avellino, of Gerardina Corsato, the 46-year-old who died of suspected botulism food poisoning.
They are the owners of the pizzeria, husband and wife, where Gerardina Corsato and her husband, Angelo Meninno, had dinner last Saturday, and a doctor from the “Frangipane” hospital in Ariano Irpino who had visited the couple last Sunday and Monday and then discharged them.
The registration is currently a necessary act undertaken by the prosecutor of the Benevento Prosecutor's Office, who coordinates the investigations entrusted to the State Police, Marilia Capitanio, at the same time as the assignment of the autopsy tests assigned to the forensic doctor Carmen Sementa who will avail herself of the consultancy of Alessandro Santurro, professor at the University of Salerno, and Sebastiano Leone, head of infectious diseases at the "San Giuseppe Moscati" hospital in Avellino.
The autopsy should take place on Saturday in the presence of consultants who will indicate the injured parties and the suspects.
In the pizzeria, which was placed under seizure, the agents of the local police station instead took samples of chili pepper oil, tomatoes, oil and preserved mushrooms. Angelo Meninno, Gerardina's 52-year-old husband, hospitalized since Tuesday at the "Cotugno" hospital in Naples for suspected food poisoning, is responding well to treatment. Biological samples of the man will be analyzed by the laboratories of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.
The Prevention Department of the ASL of Avellino in turn carried out epidemiological investigations in the couple's home and inspections inside the pizzeria.
