Ercolano, the White Night of Culture at the MAV

“The White Night is our special celebration – explained Ciro Cacciola, Director of MAV – to inaugurate a new path of our virtual Museum: the Mav Christmas Experience which, dedicated to the theme of Christmas, can be visited in the afternoon hours during the weekends.

Friday 15 December 2023 from 18pm to 24am, the MAV/ the Virtual Archaeological Museum of Herculaneum will host the White Night of Culture: a special evening enlivened by many music, theater, dance events and Christmas markets full of books, tastings and crafts.

After the inauguration of the MAV CHRISTMAS EXPERIENCE, the new museum setting of culture which, thanks to the magic of multimedia installations dedicated to Christmas, will be able to interact and involve adults and children, the magical evening of music, films and many surprises will continue to enchant those present through the numerous fascinating performances on the programme:

The Barracca dei Buffoni in “Le Fleur”: a traveling street theater show inspired by the beauty of flowers

The Tdbrothers – rock's Choir: a live music show with a band of 7 musicians and a choir of 20 singers

Dreams Animation

Christmas figures in masks and carts of various types of sweets

Winterlude: an extraordinary performance of dance and suspended dance by Funa ETS

Christmas Parade, curated by Small Dream Animation: a parade of 20 artists, stilt walkers, jugglers, breakers, dancers, entertainers, fire-eaters accompanied by a live band. The artists will parade in choreography, stopping at three different moments, during which the spectators will be captivated by their performing arts

“A significant year is coming to an end for MAV.– proudly stated Luigi Vicinanza, President of the CIVES/MAV Foundation of Ercolano – In 2023, in fact, we reached the milestone of the first 15 years of activity. The museum's attractiveness is being enriched with new facilities; furthermore, the MAV increasingly presents itself as a place connected to the needs of the territory, inclusive. We intend to combine tradition and innovation, as will be seen in the white night of Friday the 15th, with roots firmly in the past and an eye turned towards a future of digital humanism.”

For the evening, entry to all activities is free, while entry to the Mav Christmas Experience route costs a 6 Euro ticket.

The event is organized by the Cives Foundation of Ercolano in collaboration with the Municipality of Ercolano, Coop Radio Siani, Nuovo Progetto Ercolano Association, Ercolano Viva Association, Borgo Scavi Traders Association

The cultural narration of the MAV/Virtual Archaeological Museum of Herculaneum continues in beauty and inclusion, which, a few hundred meters from the archaeological excavations of ancient Herculaneum, represents a center of culture and technology applied to Cultural Heritage and communication among the most cutting-edge in Italy, thanks to the technological magic of the latest version MAV 5.0 – Virtual multiReality, the most advanced ever which, since October 2019, has radically revolutionized the way of living the cognitive experience of the virtual journey into the life and splendor of the main archaeological areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Baia, Stabia and Capri, to better understand their past and beauty, in a journey preparatory to visiting the open-air archaeological sites of the Campania region.

The use of the MAV museum, thanks always to the initiative “The MAV exclusively for you”, through a dedicated reservation, can always take place exclusively for organized groups of up to 20 people, at a special entrance fee, from Tuesday to Sunday, with the only recommendation to stagger visits every hour.

The area open to the public will be the museum route, the room for viewing the 3D film on the eruption of Vesuvius and the holographic installation of the digital Siren.
