Vittorio Sgarbi announced his resignation as Undersecretary of Culture during the event “La Ripartenza” in Milan, conceived by Nicola Porro.
The decision was made following a warning from the Antitrust Authority which, in response to two anonymous letters sent by the Minister of Culture, contested Sgarbi's ability to talk about art in order to avoid a conflict of interest.
Sgarbi said:
"I resign and I do it for you. The Antitrust sent a very complex and confusing letter saying that, because of two anonymous letters, I cannot give a conference at Porro. Now I am only Sgarbi, I am no longer undersecretary. I inform journalists that I resign with immediate effect and will write a letter to Meloni.”
During his speech, Sgarbi also withdrew his death wish to journalists, apologizing for having thought so.
And he stressed that his swearing during a recent television broadcast was unintentional and that it was an unauthorized interview.
Sgarbi's resignation opens a new chapter for the Ministry of Culture.
