It is known as the “war of currents” with two visionaries as protagonists. Awards “InCorti di Artemia” and “I Corti della Formica” is on stage at the Teatro Serra in Naples, “Edison vs Tesla” by Pier Paolo Palma, on stage with Eugenio Delli Veneri. Directed by Georgia de' Conno. Music by Massimo Varchione and Elisa Vito. Curated by Red Roger/Maccheroni Amari.
Seen from a contemporary perspective, the late 19th century might seem extremely backward, a world infinitely slower than ours; everywhere gas lamps, telegraphs, horses and carriages. Yet this era was full of “future” and to its famous figures, we owe all contemporary technology.
In America, an entrepreneur decides to take on the coal and gas lobbies by presenting his inventions to the world, based on the use of electric current to move engines and turn on light bulbs. Thomas Alva Edison shows the world how easy it is to tear the veil of darkness with the simple touch of a switch. However, his creation, Direct Current, has obvious management limitations; the voltages are too low, the power plants too big, the investments unsustainable. At the moment of greatest difficulty, a strange scientist knocks on his door, with a difficult temperament and unusual and disruptive ideas: it is Nikola Tesla. A bitter competition breaks out between the two. A duel, destined to degenerate, known as "the war of the currents".
“We wanted to tell the incredible story of electricity and all the inventions that came from it”, says the author. The staging is a gamble: two actors always on stage, for almost an hour, who embody this extraordinary diatribe, the outcome of which has shaped the world, to the point of making it modern. A story that deals with themes that later became crucial, such as marketing and market logic in which the role played by the psychology of the two protagonists is central: ruthless entrepreneur Edison, naive and brilliant Tesla. It is also the story of a scam, whose first victims will be precisely the two contenders.
