The third edition of the storytelling festival for kids and children, “Ricomincio dalle Storie”, will be held from May 24 to 26. This event, unique in Campania and completely free, will take place at Villa Falanga, the Libreria La Bottega delle Parole and the municipal library “Giovanni Alagi” in San Giorgio a Cremano.
Born as a spin-off of the Naples book fair, “Ricomincio dai Libri”, which this year celebrates its tenth edition, the festival promises a rich and varied program to stimulate the curiosity and creativity of the youngest. The initiative aims to introduce children and young people to the magical world of stories through writing workshops, creative ateliers, readings and meetings with nationally and internationally renowned authors, such as Silvia Serreli and Claudio Gobbetti. The special guest of this edition will be Greg, protagonist of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”.
This year’s theme, “Mirror Reflection,” was chosen for its many intrinsic meanings. The festival’s artistic director, Viviana Hutter, explains: “We wanted to emphasize the idea of simple play and healthy fun among children, like the games of the past. The mirror is a profound metaphor for the times we are living in, especially for children and teenagers. By saying 'Mirror reflection!' we imagined that everything that had been done or said to us would magically return to its source. It was a way to defend ourselves from what we considered unjust and bad”.
Hutter also emphasizes the psychological matrix of the mirror: “It doesn’t just reflect our external image, but it is an eye that looks inside us and sends us messages that are often difficult to fully understand. Looking in the mirror can be an act of great courage, self-acceptance and growth of self-esteem. However, for many kids and adults, the mirror is an enemy that shows an image that doesn’t conform to the mass. Social media, with their filters, transform the ugly duckling into a wonderful swan”.
The poster for this edition depicts a caterpillar looking at itself in the mirror and seeing a butterfly reflected in it. "The mirror, in addition to being a tool for transformation, will be a moment of reflection, acceptance, and awareness of the self and self-determination for all participants. We have imagined installations in the park of Villa Falanga with this very perspective, because a mirror shows my true 'self' and helps me understand where to work to feel good", concludes Hutter.
