The trial against Irene Pivetti, former president of Room of the Deputies, accused of evasion tax and self-laundering. The Court of Milan has accepted the request made by the public prosecutor Giovanni Tarzia, confirming the serious accusations made against the former politician.
According to the sentence issued by the judges of the fourth criminal section, Pivetti allegedly carried out a series of illicit commercial operations aimed at laundering money resulting from a massive tax evasion. Also involved in the affair was Leonardo “Leo” Isolani, a former Gran Turismo champion and rally driver, sentenced to two years in prison, compared to the three initially requested by the prosecutor.
The investigations, conducted by the Milan prosecutor's office, revealed a complex system of financial transactions between Italy and abroad, aimed at concealing and reinvesting the proceeds of tax evasion. The investigators reconstructed the role of Pivetti and Isolani in the transactions, which included fictitious sales and the use of shell companies.
The conviction represents a hard blow for Irene Pivetti, who had held one of the highest institutional positions in the country. The former president of the Room had already been at the center of controversy in recent years for its controversial business activities, culminating in the accusations now confirmed by the Court.
