“It was really scary, but luckily everything ended in the best possible way”, so Maria Rosaria and Giampiero Pepe, a couple from Pontecagnano Faiano, breathe a sigh of relief after the incredible story involving their son Lorenzo, 10 years, during the “World Skate Games” between Pescara and Montesilvano.
The young skater, registered with Sportlab of Pontecagnano Faiano and trained by instructor Pierluigi Di Somma, accomplished an unexpected feat. Registered for the race of his category of 8 kilometers, Lorenzo decided not to stop at the finish line and continued on the course reserved for adults and professionals, tackling the entire circuit of 42 kilometers. An unscheduled event that threw organizers and family into a panic.
The young skater thus completed the entire course, receiving a long round of applause upon arrival. Ranked eleventh in the 8-kilometer race, Lorenzo was the only one in his category to also complete the 42-kilometer marathon, amid tears of joy from his mother Maria Rosaria. At home, his father Giampiero and sister Gaia, constantly waiting for updates, were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
The family wanted to heartily thank the State Police of Pescara, in particular the assistant chief Gennaro Aveta, who from Campania helped to maintain contacts, as well as the Sportlab company and the organizers of the event for their support in a moment of great apprehension. “Lorenzo has shown extraordinary strength in completing such a challenging journey,” the parents commented. “We are immensely grateful to all those who have been close to us and contributed to this happy ending.”
