A heavy sentence falls on the Province of Salerno: over 1 million and 200 thousand euros will have to be returned following irregularities in the contributions granted by the institution. The Court of Auditors has issued its decision, involving employees of Palazzo Sant'Agostino, private beneficiaries and a bank.
The investigation has distant roots, dating back to the early years of 2009, a period in which Angelo Villani held the position of president of the Province of Salerno. From those investigations, initiated to shed light on suspected anomalies in the management of the funds, two separate investigations arose: one of a criminal nature and another conducted by the accounting magistrates.
The latter, concluding its analysis, ordered a million-dollar compensation in favor of the Province. The identified responsible parties, accused of having caused economic damage to the entity, were sentenced to repair the sums unduly received or managed. However, not all those involved were found guilty: some of the defendants were acquitted, while others died during the long trial process.

It is truly incredible that after so much time we have reached such a heavy sentence. I hoped that things would be resolved sooner, but in the end it is important that the truth comes out, even if there are innocent people.
