Zuckerberg announces that Meta social networks will no longer use diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook are following the trend of a political landscape that no longer seems to care about minorities, choosing to erase years of hard-won gains in civil rights.
In an internal memo, Meta says that “the legal and policy landscape for diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the United States is changing,” adding that some programs like the Diverse Slate Approach “are no longer relevant.”
After McDonald's, Ford, Lowe's and Walmart, now Meta and soon Amazon have decided to cancel some programs aimed at protecting diversity, equity and inclusion.
The world political scenario, as well as the American one, is therefore aiming to change its approach to protecting minorities that in the past years it had achieved with difficulty with objectives useful to make social spaces safer and not places where everything is allowed.
The choices made by the giants of IT, e-commerce and social networks will have inevitable effects on current and future generations whose values are often shaped by the contexts in which they grow up.

It is a shame that large companies like Meta decide to abandon diversity and inclusion programs, because it serves to protect the rights of minorities. Let's hope that this is not the end of this progress.
