Guided tour of the collections entitled “Love is not a myth” at the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Capua for Valentine's Day.
Travelling among the artefacts kept in the rooms of the Museum, visitors will be able to discover the works that return iconographies connected to the feeling of love, in all its facets and meanings: family love (storge), friendship (philia), erotic and romantic desire (eros), and finally spiritual love (agape).
The exciting story will start from an extraordinary vase, a red-figure neck-amphora painted by one of the greatest exponents of the School of Capua, the Ixion Painter. Discovered in a tuff coffin tomb brought to light in San Prisco, in the Ponte San Prisco area, the amphora tells the myth of Andromeda and her liberation at the hands of the hero Perseus, who falls madly in love with her.
The journey will then continue to discover objects that will be illustrated to the public through a new interpretation, which aims to go beyond the concept of "value" and to tell their most intimate and profound contents.
It will then be possible to admire “The restored memory. Exhibition of seized finds”, organized by the Prosecutor's Office in collaboration with the Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit, and extended until March. Antonella Tomeo, director of the National Archaeological Museum of Ancient Capua, the Mithraeum and the Amphitheater, explains that “through a thematic itinerary, visitors will have the opportunity to participate, interact and spread the extraordinary cultural heritage, thus living a singular experience through an unusual narration of the finds kept in the exhibition rooms”.
