Dozens of buffalo calves slaughtered and thrown away
The bodies of several dozen buffalo calves, aged between 30 and 100 days, were found on the land of a farm. The animals, who died at different times, had been thrown onto the bare ground, in some cases already in an advanced state of decomposition.
Investigations underway and land under seizure
The Carabinieri Forestali of Caserta intervened on the spot, and proceeded to sequester the entire area. The police are investigating the incident, while the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere has opened an investigation to shed light on the illegal disposal of the carcasses.
Health risks and danger of epidemics
The illegal disposal of animal carcasses, in addition to being an act of incivility, is also considered a dangerous practice from a health point of view. The decomposition of animal bodies can favor the spread of pathogens, such as brucella bacteria and tuberculosis, with consequent risks of disease transmission also for humans.
Maximum alert and intensified controls
The competent authorities immediately intensified checks on the territory, in order to ascertain any responsibilities and prevent the repetition of similar episodes. The discovery of the "cemetery" of buffaloes represents a serious act of cruelty to animals and a potential danger to public health.
