The initiative “School meets cinema”, part of the project “Theatre and Cinema, what a class!” promoted by the Municipality of Naples, has marked a significant milestone with the creation of a short film. Supported by the MEET ETS Association and financed by the municipal administration, the initiative aims to strengthen the bond between students and the world of cinema and performing arts.
An Immersive Training Path
The project involved 60 students and teachers from the Fermi-Gadda Institute, offering them a 26-hour training cycle. The educational phase was characterized by a combination of theoretical lessons and practical workshops held by experts in the film industry. During these sessions, students explored various aspects of cinema, such as screenwriting, directing, shooting and editing, with the aim of developing critical and creative skills.
A Collective Short Film
The highlight of the initiative was the production of a short film, conceived and created entirely by the participants, with the support of expert tutors. This short film will be distributed by the MEET ETS Association and will take part in European film festivals, offering young authors an international platform. Sergio Locoratolo, coordinator of cultural policies of the Municipality of Naples, highlighted the importance of this project for the education and cultural growth of young people. The initiative is very interesting, but I don't know if it will really lead to an improvement in the students' skills. They should be more involved and have more class hours to sharpen their skills. This is a positive step.
I agree with Imartinelli, but I wonder if a short film is enough to motivate the kids. Practical training is essential, but continuous support over time is also needed.
I think projects like this are useful, but there are many other things that could be done to involve young people more in the world of cinema and the arts in general.
