Naples – The minor who stabbed a 25-year-old in the car on November 2023, 17, was sentenced to four years in prison Galleria Umberto I.
The young man, a member of a baby gang, received the sentence from the Juvenile Court of Naples, with a verdict that significantly reduced the request of the public prosecutor, initially set at 9 years and 9 months.
The attack in the nightlife of via Toledo
The attack took place on a Saturday night, in the heart of Neapolitan nightlife. A group of very young people attacked Francesco, hitting him with kicks, punches and slashes. The reason? Having spoken with the ex-girlfriend of the leader of the group.
The victim's mother's outburst
A sentence greeted with bitterness by the family of the attacked boy. Mariarosaria, mother of the victim, expressed all her disappointment for the sentence:
“It is inexplicable how they reduced the sentence compared to the prosecutor’s requests. Our family has been inflicted with very deep wounds, which go beyond the stab wounds to my son. Wounds that do not disappear even with time. We expected at least an exemplary sentence”.
Despite the sentence, the weight of an episode of violence that has shocked a family and once again turned the spotlight on the phenomenon of baby gangs in Naples remains.
"If there is no doubt about the crime of attempted murder, why was such a light sentence handed down for such a brutal act that could have cost the life of an innocent person?" - declares the Green-Sinistra alliance deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli who has been close to Francesco's family since the day after the attack.
"We also remember that all the members of the baby gang who, after the stabbing, boasted about their feat on social media must be identified and pardoned. Young criminals are going around armed, spreading terror and death, and the law seems impotent. Without exemplary sentences, we will not be able to stop this trend of violence."

It is not clear how it is possible that a minor receives such a low sentence for such a violent act. Society must take note of these situations and act accordingly. Let us hope that justice takes its course and that similar episodes do not repeat themselves.
