Naples – The President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, intervenes on the possible renovation of the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, in view of the facility's candidacy as one of the venues for the 2032 European Football Championships.
“We have already invested over 30 million euros in the stadium for the Universiade,” De Luca recalled, underlining how those works were essential to adapt the facility to the needs of the Champions League. “Without that intervention, playing Champions League matches would have been complicated.”
For the rest, the governor reiterated that the structure is owned by the Municipality of Naples and that any decisions on the renovation are up to other interlocutors: "I am not updated on the evaluations in progress, but we will evaluate with the utmost availability a possible collaboration".
De Luca then highlighted the delicate context in which the stadium is located, between Bagnoli and the Campi Flegrei, an area that requires particular attention from a planning and urban planning perspective.
Finally, a clear warning: "If we are asked for support, as already happened for the Universiade with De Laurentiis, we are available to discuss it. But let's be clear: the Campania Region is not the Bank of Italy".

The topic of the stadium renovation is interesting, but there are many unknowns to consider. Investing 30 million is a big commitment, but adapting to future needs is not easy. It requires careful planning.
I agree with the idea that the structure needs to be adequate, but there are many things that are not clear. Management by the Municipality can further complicate the situation and the timing is uncertain.
