A cyclist was hit by an ambulance in Naples, precisely on Via Marina, near the intersection with Via Duomo.
The 45-year-old man was immediately rescued and taken to the Ospedale del Mare, where he is in critical condition. At the moment, doctors have established a reserved prognosis. He has undergone delicate surgery.
Local police authorities intervened at the scene of the accident to manage the situation and start the necessary investigations.
The images from public and private video surveillance cameras in the area were examined while the ambulance driver was subjected to all the necessary tests to establish whether he was fit to drive at the time of the accident and his license was withdrawn.
The investigations will serve to establish not only the exact dynamics of the accident but also any responsibilities. The cyclist was riding an electric bike. The accident occurred on the lane reserved for public transport in the direction of travel from the intersection with Corso Garibaldi towards Via De Gasperi.
The causes of the collision between the ambulance used for the Dialysis Service and the pedal-assisted bicycle are still to be ascertained. The agents of the Naples Local Police of the Road Accident Unit intervened on the scene and interviewed witnesses. Both the ambulance and the pedal-assisted bicycle were seized.

It is very sad that accidents like this happen, especially in Naples. I hope the cyclist recovers soon and that the authorities do their job to clarify the situation. Road accidents are a serious problem.
