Naples continues with determination its internationalization strategy to intercept new foreign tourist flows, stimulating the growth of the city and attracting new targets.
This time the focus is on the German market and after the presence in Munich, at F.re.e now the Tourism Department of the Municipality of Napoli together with its DMO, is aiming for the ITB in Berlin, the largest global tourism fair, scheduled from 4 to 6 March.
The goal is clear: to consolidate Naples' position on the German market by offering a complete experience: from culture to gastronomy, from shopping, even luxury, to experiential adventures: Naples has a very rich tourist offer and intends to tell it to a curious public eager to discover new destinations or new reasons to get passionate.
Germany, on the other hand, has already demonstrated a strong bond with the city. The data speaks for itself: 2023 was a crucial year with the country in fourth place for foreign presences in the city and an average stay of 5 nights in accommodation facilities. This shows that German tourists not only visit Naples, but choose to stay longer, to immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of the city.
Furthermore, Naples has become the third favorite destination for Germans in Italy for airport arrivals, immediately after Rome and Milan. As many as 3% of travelers departing from Frankfurt chose Naples as their destination, confirming a growing interest in the Neapolitan city.
Naples is experiencing a real tourist boom and the Germans are playing a key role in this development. Teresa Armato, Councilor for Tourism for the Municipality of Naples, enthusiastically emphasizes the importance of this connection: “Germany is a market we are particularly fond of and this is due to the type of traveler who comes to the city, culturally sensitive to the beauty of Naples, also facilitated by the numerous direct air connections with cities such as Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin.”
To further strengthen this bond, the Department has been working for some time with the DMO through targeted strategies through a careful study of the needs of travellers, improving the tourist offer and hospitality, also focusing on forms of necessary and useful collaborations such as the one with the Landmarker photographers started in November and which produced evocative images that tell the authenticity and beauty of the city.
Another interesting aspect is the growing preference of German tourists for luxury experiences: exclusive hotels with a view of Vesuvius, private tours among the historical-artistic beauties and the local food and wine excellences. The city responds to these new needs by offering an increasingly experiential journey.
“To meet the growing demand, Naples is investing in general towards an increasingly efficient and personalized welcome. The tourist information points will increase from 4 to 7, guaranteeing widespread assistance throughout the city.
The operators, trained also thanks to school-work alternation programs in collaboration with local universities, are ready to welcome tourists with professionalism and a sincere smile, offering tailor-made advice to discover hidden corners and authentic itineraries. Naples thus continues its path of tourist growth, strengthening the special bond with German visitors and positioning itself as one of the most sought-after destinations in Italy” – continues the Councilor for Tourism, Teresa Armato.

It is interesting to see how Naples is trying to attract more tourists from Germany. However, there are many things to improve, such as signage and services offered to visitors, which sometimes do not live up to expectations.
