The music world mourns the loss of Paulo Fernández Gallo, known as Paulo FG, who died at the age of 63 in a tragic car accident in Havana last Thursday. The artist, a famous exponent of Cuban timba, boasted origins in Salerno.
According to reconstructions, Paulo FG was driving his SUV when, for reasons yet to be ascertained, he collided with a bus on the Malecón Habanero, one of the main arteries of the Cuban capital. The impact was fatal and, despite the timely intervention of the rescuers, there was nothing that could be done for the singer.
Born in 1962 in Havana, Paulo FG began his musical career collaborating with groups such as Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, Opus 13 and Dan Den. In 1992 he founded his own band, La Élite, becoming one of the most representative voices of timba, a Cuban musical genre that fuses elements of salsa, jazz and funk.

It's very sad that Paulo FG died so young, I remember his songs that were beautiful and I always danced. Cuban music has lost a great artist and I hope his memory stays alive.
