A car accident involving a group of six Italian tourists in Cienfuegos, Cuba, left one dead and seven others injured.
The Farnesina has announced it. The dynamics of the accident are still being ascertained. The other passengers of Italian nationality have reported injuries. Since the first report, the Italian Embassy in Havana has been offering assistance to the compatriots in coordination with the Farnesina.
The embassy maintains constant contact with the medical staff and the tour operator. The minibus carrying the Italian tourists – according to reports by Cuban media, including Diario De Cuba – went off the road on a stretch of the national highway near the Cuban municipality of Aguada de Pasajeros, in Cienfuegos.
The accident occurred yesterday when the state-owned Transtur minibus collided with the concrete railing of a bridge at kilometer 209 of the highway. As a result of the impact - local media reported - two of the nine people traveling on board the vehicle died instantly, including the Cuban driver and the person of Italian nationality.

Reading about this incident made me feel very sad. Italian tourists in Cuba should not face these bad situations. I hope the authorities can do something to improve road safety in those places.
