Yesterday morning, the State Police arrested a 40-year-old of Zimbabwean origin, already known to the police, for attempting to steal a scooter in Via Firenze, in the heart of Naples. The man, an illegal immigrant on the national territory, was stopped by the officers of the Police Station Vicar-Market, intervened after the report of some passers-by.
The escape attempt and the arrest
According to the reconstruction, the man was caught while trying to start the scooter. At the sight of the police, he attempted to flee, but was promptly stopped by the officers in Corso Novara. During the search, he was found in possession of a metal cylindrical key and a large screwdriver, tools used to force the steering lock of the vehicle.
Precedents and accusations
The 40-year-old, with specific precedents for aggravated theft, resisting a public official and carrying weapons or objects capable of offending, was arrested and will have to answer for attempted aggravated theft. The scooter was returned to its rightful owner.
