Qualiano – An argument over an inherited television degenerated into a brutal domestic assault, culminating in the arrest of a 52-year-old man already known to law enforcement.

The dramatic episode occurred on the eve of March 8 in Qualiano, where a 28-year-old woman was threatened with death and beaten by her uncle over an issue related to the inheritance of a smart TV.

The story: the television left as an inheritance to his niece

It all started when the girl's grandfather, before dying, decided to give her a television. A choice that her uncle did not accept, convinced that the object was rightfully his. From that moment, the insistent requests to obtain the television turned into an escalation of violence.

After numerous refusals from the niece, the tension erupted into continuous arguments, insults and threats. Until the evening of the attack, when the man lost control: he first hit the niece, then devastated the house, breaking a wardrobe door and kicking a coffee table. Terrified, the 28-year-old took refuge in the bathroom and called 112.

When the Carabinieri from the Giugliano radiomobile section arrived, the man showed no sign of repentance, and instead continued to threaten his niece and her mother, saying: “Did you call the Carabinieri? I’ll beat you to death in front of them.”

But he did not have time to commit another violent act: the soldiers immediately immobilized him and arrested him. The attacker, already known to the authorities, will now have to answer for his actions before the justice system.

Domestic Violence: A Daily Problem

International Women's Day, gender violence remains a scourge: reports increase, 77 arrests in Naples in 2025. The case of Qualiano is thought-provoking. The fact that it occurred on the eve of International Women's Day makes the intervention of the police even more symbolic, as they avoided worse consequences for the victim.

La violence against women, a complex and deep-rooted phenomenon, often manifests itself in everyday contexts, triggered by apparently banal events. A cold dinner, a delay, a like on social media: pretexts that trigger brutal reactions, revealing latent violence. The problem does not lie in the trigger, but in the aggressor's legitimacy to exercise domination and force.

The case of Qualiano, which occurred on the eve of March 8, is a clear example. A 28-year-old woman, attacked by her uncle for an inherited television, found the courage to report it. The man, already known to the police, threatened to kill her even in front of the carabinieri, who intervened promptly. The attacker was arrested.

This episode, like many others, reminds us that gender violence is a painful plague. However, the data from the Provincial Command Carabinieriof Naples highlight a positive sign: the increase in complaints. Women are no longer willing to suffer in silence. Greater awareness, institutional support and the strengthening of protection measures are helping to break down the wall of fear.

The data: in the first months of 2025, 77 arrests and 311 reports

The data speaks for itself: in 2024, the Carabinieri of the Neapolitan province recorded 2944 reported incidents, while in the first two months of 2025 there have already been 311 reports.
434 arrests and 2371 people reported in 2024. For 2025 (January – February) the number of arrests stands at 77, the number of people reported at liberty at 226.

The use of new technologies such as Mobile Angel, an advanced wearable device that allows victims of violence to report danger in real time, was crucial to the balance. Equally important were the listening rooms set up in 5 different points of the provincial road, a way to welcome women in more familiar and safe environments, with personnel specialized in treating cases of violence.

Violence against women is a collective issue. And as long as even one woman is afraid to report, to walk alone in the street or to feel free in her choices, we cannot be truly satisfied. The increase in reports is a step forward, but there is still a long way to go. Change is possible and the Carabinieri will always be ready to support victims with all available resources.
