Rising temperatures, water shortages and hydrogeological risks are endangering the territory. Urgent innovative interventions are needed to counter the crisis.
Article Key Points
La Campania is facing increasingly complex environmental challenges, exacerbated by climate changesHigh urbanization and hydrogeological, seismic and volcanic fragility make the region particularly exposed to natural risks.
According to the analysis of the Ecogest Climate Change Study Center (CCSC), Campania is among the most vulnerable areas in Italy and the projections for the next decades are alarming.
Temperatures and drought: a worrying scenario
Studies show a significant increase in average temperature, especially in the city of Napoli, where within the 2100 an increase of up to is expected 6°C compared to current levels.
Drought, combined with extreme weather events, represents another growing threat. Forecasts indicate an increase in heavy rainfall in the autumn and winter months, while in spring and summer precipitation will drop dramatically. The number of consecutive days without rain could increase up to 50% in the summer months, worsening the water crisis.
Risk of landslides and hydrogeological instability
The danger of landslides and mudslides is particularly serious: approximately 28% of the Campania population lives in areas with medium-high hydrogeological risk, While the landslide-prone areas they cover the 15% of the regional territory.
“Campania is exposed to natural risks of great magnitude, higher than the national average. These factors profoundly influence economic development and land management. Our study aims to provide concrete data to guide future infrastructural and political choices. It is essential to act promptly, adopting innovative solutions based on technology and scientific research”Said Valerio Molinari, Chairman of the CCSC and shareholder of Ecogest Spa.
Urgent interventions for infrastructure
Campania's infrastructure, especially that related to transport, is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Molinari emphasizes the importance of investing in targeted solutions, including:
✅ Advanced technologies: installation of cameras, weather stations and road load sensors to monitor infrastructure degradation.
✅ Planting of native trees: an initiative aimed at improve environmental sustainability and reduce the impact of global warming on infrastructure.
A challenge that requires immediate action
The climate crisis demands a change of course. Sustainable policies and technological innovation are essential to mitigate risks and protect the future of Campania. The alarm raised by experts cannot be ignored: concrete strategies are needed to prevent environmental disasters and guarantee safety for future generations.
