Awarded this morning at Agraria, in the Royal Palace of arcade, the winners of Re FOOD, the first competition for designers capable of reinventing agri-food waste promoted by the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples Federico II, in collaboration with ADI – Association for Industrial Design.
The first prize was awarded to the junior category. The project 'Maciste' by Lorenzo Esposito was awarded. It is a design project, a 'secret holder', a container that can be made with dried fruit shells or egg shells or mollusc shells.
Second prize ex aequo in the junior category went to Beatrice Borellini and Laura Verri, tiles made from mussel shells and various bivalves.
Second prize ex aequo in the junior category to Giulia Cosentino for the bioplastic birdhouse made with organic components such as starch, alcohol vinegar, seeds and pine resin that does not exhaust its life after use, transforming into local plants.
Second prize ex aequo in the senior category went to Edoardo Perri and Dario Riva for coffee cups and saucers made with coffee waste.
Second prize ex aequo in the senior category went to Gaetano Avitabile for the Pod lamp made with plastic material from the food supply chain, plastic caps from Coca Cola bottles and expanded polystyrene from packaging for transporting buffalo mozzarella.
Special mention in the junior category to Francesca Nori and Fabrizio Moiani for surface covering panels made with pineapple peels.
Special mention in the junior category to Nicola Boselli for his seat and table covered with materials obtained from mango waste and orange juice waste.
Special mention in the junior category to Luisa Carnevale Baraglia, Yuki Hadal and Siyuan Wang for placemats made with scraps of oranges, chestnuts, courgettes, artichokes and lemons.
The competition, conceived by Danilo Ercolini, director of the Department of Agriculture together with Michelangelo Russo, director of the Department of Architecture, and reserved for junior and senior designers, was very successful in the environment and many designers from all over Italy participated, the junior category was the most productive.
All 38 projects submitted are on display in a temporary exhibition in the Agraria library, in the Royal Palace, from 13 to 15 May 2022.
