Suor Orsola Benincasa University speaks the 'languages' of work – Degree more effective than the Italian average by over 15%
The degree obtained at the Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples is 15% more effective than the national average.
This is what emerges from the data presented by AlmaLaurea in the usual Annual Report on the profile and employment status of Italian graduates and in particular from the data that measures the marketability of the qualification obtained and the use in the workplace of the skills acquired during the course of study. A figure that sees the effectiveness of the degree from Suor Orsola at 81,5%, compared to 66,3% of the national data and 68,9% of the data relating to the Universities of Campania.
For the sample of over three thousand Unisob graduates interviewed by AlmaLaurea, the added value that makes the degree from the Suor Orsola Benincasa University so effective lies above all in the close interconnection between a solid traditional education and a substantial on-the-job training that at the Neapolitan University starts from the first year of each degree course. The data is very clear: 73,76% of Unisob graduates have done internships and work placements during their course of study, while in the rest of the Campania universities the data is stuck at 49,9% and the national average reaches 57,1%.
The 'Languages' model: digital revolution and curriculum for professions 'agreed' with local companies
The recent AlmaLaurea data therefore reward, above all, the particularly professionalizing vocation of many degree courses at Suor Orsola, the oldest free Italian University. Among these are undoubtedly the three-year degree course in Modern Languages and Cultures and the master's degree course in Modern Languages for International Communication and Cooperation. Degree courses with ancient and solid academic traditions (open at Suor Orsola since 1978) but which in the last ten years have developed a course of study specifically designed to respond to a need that had become pressing in the fabric of small and medium-sized export-oriented businesses: a curriculum dedicated to Languages for the Professions.
"The target – explains Gianluca Genovese, president of the three-year degree course in Languages – is to train a professional figure who combines a secure command of foreign languages with important skills in the economic-business, legal and IT fields".
A gamble that, also based on the numbers witnessed by AlmaLaurea, has proven to be a winning one, especially in a University whose mission has always been to transform advanced knowledge into concrete projects for the future, accompanying young people into the world of work, as demonstrated by the personalized work that the Job Placement Office of Suor Orsola carries out on each individual graduate.
The professional curriculum has also been strengthened in the Master's Degree Course (Modern Languages for International Communication and Cooperation) with the inclusion of a laboratory entirely dedicated to the history and vocabulary of digital. And the digital revolution, in all its aspects (Internet/Web, social media, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence) is also addressed in the historical-political disciplines that, in the degree courses in languages at Suor Orsola, accompany and complete the economic and legal ones.
“This original training plan – highlights Stefano De Luca, president of the Master's Degree in Languages – contributes to the excellent results of the Master's Degree which in the last five years has doubled the number of students enrolled and which, according to the official data of Cineca (the Consortium of Italian Universities, under the supervision of the Ministry of Universities), has results that are higher not only than the regional averages, but also than the national ones, in the students' career (the time it takes to obtain the degree) and in the satisfaction of students and graduates”.
Registration for the Master in Professional Translation and Linguistic Mediation for Business Communication is open until September 30th
Speaking of advanced training in international languages, Suor Orsola has already online at www.unisob.na.it/master the call for applications for the twelfth edition of the Level I Master's Degree (accessible, that is, after a three-year degree) in Professional Translation and Linguistic Mediation for Business Communication, which also features excellent placement thanks to the very close synergy with the corporate world (among the partners are Cafè Do Brasil, Carpisa, Estenza, GH Aeroporto, Grimaldi Group, Kiton, MSC, Re-play, Uno Outdoor).
The corporate linguistic-cultural mediator, a significant profession for which there was no educational path based on direct training in Italian universities before, as underlined by the scientific coordinator of the Master, Gianluca Genovese, “has the skills to create the cultural conditions – even before the merely economic-legal ones – capable of making any promotional and entrepreneurial activity grow, aimed at interlocutors who are often distant in terms of 'expectations horizons' and, therefore, to be involved through complex translation practices”.
