Whirlpool Napoli, the provincial secretariats of Fim, Fiom and Uilm of Naples have written to the prefect Claudio Palomba to request an "urgent meeting" and receive an update on the dispute filed with the Mise. The objective is "to know the results of the conference of services" convened by the ministry.
“It is disconcerting that the government is not taking into consideration the unions' pressing request for a meeting after Whirlpool's announced intention to divest its activities in Europe.”
He stated it Isabella Gentilucci, provincial secretary Uilm Ancona and union representative for the Whirlpool sites in the province. “Together with other trade unions – he added – we have promoted provincial initiatives to highlight how, if the American multinational were to carry out its intentions, the Fabriano area, already affected by many disputes, would definitively go towards an irreversible industrial drift.
The government needs to call a meeting as soon as possible to clarify the future of the Italian sites which currently employ 5.000 workers, 1.400 of whom are in the Marche region – Gentilucci concluded -. We cannot leave so many families in uncertainty for all this time without someone at the central institutional level, at least trying to promote a discussion between the social parties and the company. The government should act as soon as possible”.
