The approximately 150 employees of the Grand Hotel “The Sonrisa”, known as “The Castle of Ceremonies”, are worried about their employment future.
The hotel was confiscated and handed over to the Municipality of Sant'Antonio Abate. The facility remains open, but the numerous cancellations of weddings and other events raise fears for the future.
“We only learned about the ruling that concerns our source of work from the media,” says Emma, a receptionist. “We are experiencing moments of deep anguish and uncertainty. Among us there are families who need certainty to be able to pay mortgages, rents and support their children.”
In addition to the 150 direct employees, Castello delle Cerimonie generates a further 150 people. The current situation worries them too.
“There are couples who have already organized their wedding in the next few months and who have invested a lot in the party,” adds Emma. “They ask us what is happening and we cannot give them precise answers.”
Workers are asking institutions to help them and give them certainty about their future. “It’s not a good message that we’re sending,” says Emma. “It also affects the image of our city.”
This morning, workers gathered in front of the Sant'Antonio Abate Town Hall to present their concerns to the mayor. They will organize a march through the streets of the city on Thursday morning.
The workers hope that the institutions will find a solution for the Castello delle Cerimonie and that their work can continue.
