The new school building, which will replace the existing one - lacking equipment and services and inadequate from a plant and structural point of view - aims to meet current and future educational needs both from a physical and spatial point of view, ensuring adequate architectural solutions, and in terms of energy efficiency and environmental impact, in order to obtain a safe, inclusive school, capable of promoting the reduction of consumption and emissions, offering safety from earthquakes and intrusions, a greater implementation of green areas serving the school and the entire city so as to impact the sustainable development of the territory and increase the provision of services, aimed at enhancing the life of the community that resides in the surrounding areas.
It all starts following a two-phase design competition – Scuola Futura – promoted by the Ministry of Education and Merit in 2022, the building of the “Benedetto Croce” Comprehensive Institute will be demolished and rebuilt in accordance with the most recent Guidelines for the design and construction of innovative school buildings.
“Designing a new school – Democratic Party councilor Elsa Picaro clarified – is an incredible opportunity to rethink and design a space in the city that is not only a place for children's education but first and foremost a physical and immaterial space for aggregation for the construction of a new civic and community identity.
Architecture has the great power to regenerate, with its forms, abandoned or highly degraded urban spaces: being able to reactivate a transformation process through an architecture that is also a new school represents a precious opportunity for the entire community”.
