The city of Napoli continues to be the scene of thefts of cars and motorcycles, both parked on the street and in private garages inside condominiums. The latest episode occurred on the night between April 15 and 16 in the historic center, in via Costantinopoli.
CCTV footage sent to police shows three men on two scooters breaking into the gates of an apartment building to steal a Honda motorcycle. After unsuccessfully trying to open the gate with their bare hands, the thieves used a large screwdriver to carry out the theft while one of them climbed inside.
Green-Left MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli expressed concern about the frequency of thefts in Naples, underlining the lack of adequate preventive interventions and the scarcity of police officers and patrols on the territory. The impunity with which thieves act and the sense of impotence of citizens in the face of such episodes are a source of growing concern in the city.
“They are not afraid of anything, they become more and more unscrupulous and always act undisturbed. The streets are theirs. Citizens can only watch helplessly as these abuses are being deprived of their possessions, sometimes even risking their own safety.
Thefts are continuous, especially those involving vehicles, we receive dozens of reports every day. Perhaps too little is being done in terms of prevention, but above all there is a shortage of officers and patrols. We need reinforcements” – declared Borrelli.
