Fear in Sarno during the night due to some mudslides that fell in the town due to heavy rains: families evacuated as a precaution and schools closed this morning.
Mayor Francesco Squillante alerted the Civil Protection last night and communicated to citizens through his institutional Facebook page.
“The rain in the last few hours has caused debris and mud to slide down the valley in the area of the historic center, the foothills behind the town hall.
As a precaution, at 02.00 we evacuated approximately 40 people living in via Mortarto and intersections.
The people removed from their homes are, in part, hosted in the rooms of the Amendola school gym. Others have found independent accommodation. The families are supported by Red Cross and Civil Protection personnel.
The Coc has been activated, and we are continuing to monitor the situation not only in this area, but in various parts of the territory.
We are on site with the Fire Brigade, Carabinieri, Municipal Police, Municipal Technicians, Civil Protection, Red Cross.
We are in contact with the Campania Region, in the next few hours more rain is expected throughout the territory.
Transit and access prohibited, for vehicles coming from the city centre, on the following roads: Via Michele Squitieri, Via Mortaro and Vico San Martino.
I ask everyone for maximum collaboration. Updates will follow”.
Weather situation improved this morning
This morning, the cleaning operations of the roads affected by the mud fall are continuing. Vehicles sent by the Municipality are in action in the areas affected by the mud fall, in the piedmont area. Several families were evacuated and will be able to return after checks and street cleaning since the weather situation has significantly improved.
