The ecological island of the municipality of Greci, located in the province of Avellino, has been transformed into an illegal landfill containing hazardous waste. Among the materials found are bulky waste, eternit, used oil, scrapped computers, waste from construction sites and potentially explosive gas cylinders. This discovery led to the seizure of the area.
Due to the reports received by the Irpiniambiente operators, the Forestry Carabinieri of Ariano Irpino have decided to intervene. Irpiniambiente is the public company responsible for managing the collection and transfer of waste to suitable facilities.
Following the intervention, all waste disposal activities at this ecological island were immediately suspended.
The Benevento prosecutor's office is coordinating the investigations to identify those responsible for these illegal disposals. The goal is to ascertain any administrative responsibilities, in addition to sanctioning those who transformed an area dedicated to the correct disposal of waste into an illegal landfill.
