The Carabinieri of Forlimpopoli recently arrested a 33-year-old woman with a criminal record, originally from Naples, accused of aggravated fraud against an elderly local woman. The victim had been contacted by telephone by a man who identified himself as a lawyer, informing her that her son had been involved in a car accident with a pregnant woman.
To avoid her son's arrest and serious legal consequences, she was asked to deliver 15 thousand euros to a person appointed by the lawyer.
When the scammer showed up at the door of the old woman, this one, not having the entire sum, handed over part of the money in cash. The woman then tried to convince the old woman to supplement the sum with jewelry, but the unexpected return of the victim's husband interrupted the attempt.
The scammer fled with the money she had already obtained, while her husband immediately notified the Carabinieri, describing the woman.
The Carabinieri quickly tracked down and arrested the 33-year-old near the Forlimpopoli train station, recovering the entire stolen sum. The woman, with a criminal record for similar crimes, was jailed in Forlì awaiting trial.
