Now there's a name and a motive—or rather, more than one. The murderer of Policca's mayor, Angelo Vassallo, on the evening of September 5, 2010, was former Carabinieri sergeant Lazzaro Cioffi. Camorra informer Romolo Ridosso testified in his recent interrogation on November 11.

The minutes filed in the preliminary hearing scheduled for next Monday were published in excerpts by the newspapers Il Fatto, Repubblica, and Il Mattino. They show that the murder of the fisherman mayor was the result of a decision by a group from Scafati, interested in developing drug trafficking in Cilento by using the port of Acciaroli as an operations base.

In the interrogation report Ridosso says that the Scafati businessman Joseph Cyprian he had confided in him: “The involvement of Cioffi and Cipriano in the murder was instead (…) represented to me in December, when I met Giuseppe Cipriano in the cinema in Scafati… I walked away from my partner and went up to the office with Cipriano. On this occasion Cipriano told me exactly that the murder had been committed by them and in particular by Cioffi as the executor. In particular he told me: “it was your buddy”. I deduced that it was Cioffi because he was the only one of the group that I frequented together with Cipriano”.

And then Ridosso always explains what the reasons would have been: “On that occasion (Cipriano, ed.) he listed to me all the causes of the murder, stating, first of all, that the mayor wanted to throw him out of Acciaroli both because of the theft in a place he owned, located near the cinema (managed that summer by Cipriano, ed.), committed by one of his employees, and because he had not granted Raffaele Maurelli (originally from Castellammare di Stabia like Ridosso but cousin of Cipriano and member of the group dedicated to drug trafficking, investigated and died during the investigations, ed.) the possibility of doing some work in the port of Acciaroli and finally because he had discovered their involvement in drug trafficking”.

Next Monday, the requests for revocation of the precautionary measures carried out on November 7th presented by three of the four arrested that day will be discussed in the review court. Namely, the Carabinieri officer Fabio Cagnazzo (defended by lawyer Ilaria Criscuolo), the former Carabinieri sergeant Lazzaro Cioffi (defended by the lawyer Giuseppe Stellato) and the entrepreneur from Scafati Giuseppe Cipriano (defended by the lawyer Giovanni Annunziata). Romolo Ridosso, defended by the lawyer Michele Avino, did not present any request.

The accusations of Romolo Ridosso against the alleged murderer of Angelo Vassallo will now have to be evaluated by the Review judges also because in the minutes attached to the documents there are some evident contradictions on which the defenders of the three are ready to do battle.
