The Ministry of Culture announces that the Jury for the selection of the city Italian Capital of Culture 2027, chaired by Davide Maria Desario, has chosen the ten finalist cities.
The 10 finalist projects were chosen after examining the 17 applications received, giving priority to those whose dossiers best respond to the call.
The following municipalities will therefore participate in the final phase of the selection with their respective dossiers: 1. Alberobello (province of Bari, Puglia) “Pietramadre” 2. Aliano (province of Matera, Basilicata) “Land of elsewhere” 3. Brindisi (Puglia) “Navigating the future” 4. Gallipoli (province of Lecce, Puglia) “The beauty between land and sea”
5. La Spezia (Liguria) “A culture like the sea” 6. Pompeii (province of Napoli, Campania) “Pompei Continuum” 7. Pordenone (Friuli Venezia Giulia) “Pordenone 2027. A surprising city” 8. Reggio Calabria (Calabria) “Heart of the Mediterranean” 9. Sant'Andrea di Conza (province of Avellino, Campania) “Meeting time” 10. Savona (Liguria) “New routes for culture”.
The finalists will be called for public hearings on February 25 and 26, 2025. This will be an opportunity for each candidate to illustrate their project in detail to the experts who will evaluate them.
For each dossier, the hearings will last a maximum of 60 minutes, of which 30 for the presentation of the project and 30 for a question session by the Jury. The proclamation of the Italian Capital of Culture will be held by March 28, 2025. The winning city will be awarded a financial contribution of one million euros to implement the initiatives and objectives outlined in the candidacy project.

It is interesting to see how many cities have participated in this call for the Capital of Culture. I hope that all of them have presented valid projects, and that the jury makes a fair choice for everyone.
It is great news that there are ten cities finalists for the capital of culture. It will be interesting to see how they present their projects and which ideas will be most persuasive for the jury. Each city has its own unique value.
