Salerno – A high-tension scene, albeit simulated, kept the Marina d'Arechi tourist port in suspense this morning, where the State Police Negotiation Team of the Salerno Police Headquarters conducted a practical exercise.
The operation, organized in line with the directives of the Territorial Control Service of the Central Anti-Crime Directorate, involved specialized agents in a complex scenario: a man, blinded by jealousy, barricaded himself in a restaurant, kidnapping and threatening his wife.
The recently established Negotiation Team has demonstrated its ability to intervene in critical situations on the field. Composed of personnel from the Flying Squad, DIGOS, the Office of General Prevention and Public Aid, the Interregional Cabinet of Scientific Police and a Psychologist from the Provincial Health Office, the team worked in synergy to manage the crisis.
The Critical Intervention Squad and the First Response Operations Units also intervened to support the operation, while a representative from the Territorial Control Service monitored every phase of the operation. The use of Police water scooters was not lacking, ready to intervene promptly even from the sea.
The exercise, which attracted the attention of many curious people, was a test bed to test the communication, coordination and tactical support capabilities between the different components of the team. The main objective: to keep the skills needed to deal with critical events updated, ensuring a rapid and effective response.
At the end of the operation, the Police Chief of Salerno, Giancarlo Conticchio, wanted to thank all the participants for their commitment and professionalism. “Exercises like these are essential to prepare us for real situations, where every second counts and coordination between the different units can make the difference,” said Conticchio.
The event confirmed the importance of continuous and interdisciplinary training, especially in high-risk contexts such as those related to kidnappings and relationship crises. The Salerno State Police thus confirms its readiness to deal with even the most delicate situations, with an eye to the safety of citizens.
